For the past few weeks I have been seeing a big increase in the number of post in social media about vaccines. There have been all the pro vaccers and the con vaccers standing on their mighty pulpits, screaming from the top of their lungs as to who is right and who is wrong.
Just a couple of weeks ago I even got into it on Facebook with some guy I had never met…
And I can tell you that my blood pressure was through the roof. I honestly felt that this guy was going to hunt me down and either disembowel me or hold me down and forcibly give me the MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella) vaccine. He claimed that vaccines work and promised to give me all the facts, but as I was reading through his copied article post after post and his long list of “facts,” I started to feel nauseous. So I ended the conversation and started reading around to see what I could find, that – well – didn’t make me want to vomit.
It was surprisingly simple to find a litany of great medical advancement articles and one-sided historical accounts of the creation of the first vaccine, inaccurate account of the smallpox campaign, a ton of information about the hailed, but highly ineffective, flu shot, misinterpretations of the Lancet study and multiple websites and articles that blamed Jenny McCarthy for the “anti-vaccine movement” which we all know has been around for as long as vaccines have been. In the end it seemed like almost everything I read or looked at, attributed autism to anything but vaccines, dishonestly claimed that neurotoxins and hazardous wastes are safe, and said we shouldn’t have a choice whether or not to vaccinate, because we disrupt the “herd” immunity that doesn’t apply to vaccines.
I have been sober for almost 4 years and all of this almost made me want a martini.
Now don’t get me wrong there is plenty of information out there that totally refutes all the crap that I was reading, but instead of talking about “herd” immunity, shouldn’t we be talking about “herd” mentality? Just because it is on NBC or FOX does not mean it is true people.
I know we like to be spoon fed our information, but we are perfectly able to think for ourselves and to come to our own conclusions. I know I am not an immunologist, but I do not need that nor all the degrees I do have to figure out whether vaccines are safe or not and if you don’t want to take my word for it and just for the record, “I don’t think vaccines are safe,” here is an incredible chart I found on-line that will help you on your way to making your own mind up.
At the end of the day, I am 47 years old and I was never vaccinated.
I had the mumps, measles and chicken pox. I also ate dirt, road my bike without a helmet and I am pretty sure I have eaten paint. We will never know the truth when it comes to vaccinations, unless we do our own research and stand up for what we have learned. I can tell you this, that if I am ever blessed with a child, he or she will not get vaccinated. We are all entitled to our opinions, but please don’t force your vaccine or your opinions on me, I can smell a billion dollar corporate backed pharmaceutical ad campaign and a “popular” media informed individual from a mile away.
Chiropractically Yours,
